Student will identify the transformative effect of industrialization. • recognize the conditions that motivated the development of imperialism. • understand the process of consolidation of national states in Europe and their relationship with the processes of union (Italy, Germany) and dissolution (Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires). • Identify the impact of colonialism on Asia and Africa. •  analyse competition between European states before 1914. • Identify the circumstances that triggered World War I. • Recognize trench warfare and the use of chemical weapons as features of World War I. • recognize the Treaty of Versailles as a result of the Allied triumph and as a factor of World War II. analyze fascism and its role as a driver of World War II.  • Investigate the characteristics of Nazi persecution of Jews and other groups. • examine testimonies of life in a ghetto. • analyze living conditions in concentration camps. • re-learn about the process of extermination of millions of human beings under Nazism and understand the meaning of the term Holocaust. • Identify the background and functions of the International Criminal Court. • Discuss the characteristics of the United Nations and its relationship to the pursuit of peace in the world. • Identify the roles of UNICEF, FAO and UNHCR and will re-edit their possibilities to improve living conditions around the world
