Unit 2 Assessment: Students will be assessed in their knowledge of the vocabulary (spelling words) and conventions (Types of nouns: common, proper, regular and irregular plurals, singular & plural possessive) lessons from Unit 2, as well as their reading comprehension skills (Cause & Effect, Draw conclusions, Fact & Opinion, Main Idea & Details).

In the second part of the week, we will start with Unit 3: Patterns in Nature. As usual we'll focus in developing the vocabulary they need before reading the main story, then we'll work on the reading skills needed for the main selection, The Man Who Named the Clouds, and we'll go over the grammar lesson for this first week: action & linking verbs.

In the last week of classes before the Christmas break, we are going to cover Unit 3 Week 3 readings, conventions and vocabulary actitivies, as well as the writing of an article.

 

Objetivos

Monday-Wednesday: To evaluate the students dominance of spelling words and grammar lessons of Unit 2.

Unit 3 Week 1: Develop students´ understanding of patterns in nature, including: changing seasons: winter, spring, summer, autumn; movement of planets; equinoxes and patterns of stars in the night sky.

Unit 3 week 2: Students will understand that animal migration is affected by patterns in nature, is done by many animals, is an act of survival, and takes place on land, air, and in water.

Actividad Docente

Display the images and videos from week 5, help Ss to review the main aspects of the topic of this week. Open a Quizlet Live for Ss to review the spelling words from that week. Monitor Ss and help them answer p. 172 from the workbook. Open a Kahoot about plural possessive nouns for Ss to practice the grammar lesson for this week. Monitor Ss to solve p. 173 in the workbook. Wrap up the day, advise on what pages to study for the Unit test (post them in Classdojo).

Actividad Estudiante

Participate in the open questions and opinions about the images and videos from week 5, answer pages from the workbook, participate in Quizlet Live and Kahoot. Take note on the pages to study.

Propósito

Prepare for Unit 2 Test by answering the Unit test in Savvas Realize.

Actividad Docente

Assign the Unit 2 Test from Savvas into Google Classroom, assist Ss to open it, help them reading the stories and/or instructions, clarify any doubt on how to solve the activities. 

Actividad Estudiante

Open the Unit 2 Test in Classroom, pay attention to the readings and answer as best as possible, check and compare with partners and/or teacher.

Propósito

Assess students in their learnings of the spelling words and grammar lessons of Unit 2

Actividad Docente

Assign the Quizlet activity through Google Classroom and the chat in Zoom, monitor around and help as requested. Oversee the Ss postings into the Classroom assignment. Assign and provide access to the Kahoot via the assignment in Classroom and the chat of Zoom. Monitor and help as requested. Send messages and links to the parents of studentes that didn't show up.

Actividad Estudiante

Answer the Test feature in Quizlet, take a screenshot and send it onto the assignment provided. Answer the Kahoot as well. Cross check Snakes and Ladders Board.

Propósito

Start Unit 3 content and estimulate students to keep up the good work up to now. Focus: new vocabulary and reading strategies. Question of the week: What is the value of looking at patterns in nature?

Actividad Docente

First, show the main features of Unit 3 content, broadcast the Big Question video. Show the titles of the 5 stories that will be covered and help Ss predict the topic.  Show Ss with some images for the 1st week. Students'Book p. 314-317.

Second, work in the language needed for week 1, first the amazing words through the weekly video, then the vocabulary and spelling words. Use Savvas portal and Quizlet to learn pronunciation, meaning and practice of the spelling words.

Third, let them solve the vocabulary activities. Set up a 4 column chart in the notebook (rainbow letters, crazy letters, abc, bubble words, etc). Reading strategy: cause and effect (watch video and read short reading)

Watch the videos, participate in the open discussions and predicting of the topic, open the word lists in Quizlet, copy the spelling words into their notebooks (1st column), and do the vocabulary activities in Savvas.

Open Quizlet and do an activity with the students, show the pages with the reading skills for the week, play the video. Display the story of the week, play audio, monitor and answer any doubts or questions from Students.

Participate in Quizlet, write down the 2nd column of the spelling words in the notebook, watch the video, and read the story of the week (or listen attentively).

Propósito

Keep practicing the spelling words, finish the story of the week, teach the conventions for this week; action and linking verbs.

Practice spelling words with a game in Quizlet. Play Kahoot about grammar lesson (diagnostic phase).

Story of the Week, 2nd part. Listen and read.  

Then teach about the conventions for this week --action and linking verbs-- through video & pages in the workbook.

Participate in the practice of the spelling words, play Kahoot, study the grammar lesson and answer the pages in the workbook. Listen and read the rest of the story of the week.

Propósito

Wrap up week 1 of Unit 3: answer vocabulary, spelling and grammar pages from the workbook, assess the spelling words, play Kahoot (quiz). Listen and read the paired selection of the week, My Weather Journal as well as the Sleuth.

Monitor Ss as they answer pages from the workbook, make the spelling quiz of the week, as well as the Kahoot (quiz phase), read the paired selection and the Sleuth story. Wrap up with the question of the week and main goals.

Participate in Quizlet, Kahoot, Spelling Quiz, answer pages from the workbook, listen to the stories, reflect on the main goals of the week.

Propósito

This week students will have to answer the question: what patterns in nature guide the lives of animals? and the vocabular and reading strategies will help them pave the understanding of the main selection for the week.

Actividad Docente

First, play Quizlet live with spelling words from Unit 3 week 2. Show the video of the week and discuss on elements they can remember. Elicit topic and content by discussing on the pictures, Students' Book p. 344-345.

Second, work in the language needed for week 2, first the amazing words through Quizlet, then the vocabulary words. Have Ss copy the spelling words in their notebook. Use Savvas portal to learn pronunciation, meaning and use of the vocabulary cards.

Third, teach on the reading skill for the week through the video about fact and opinion and practice the skill through the story "Something Must Be Done."

Watch the videos, images and readings with attention, participate in the sharing aloud, copy the spelling words into the notebook, play Quizlet live.
