4TH A ELL November 17-27

Descripción

These weeks we'll turn into the last story for Unit 2, isn't that amazing!? and then we'll go over the review for the whole vocabulary, grammar and reading skills of this unit. We'll analize the story "So You Want to be a President?" against the question of the week, What is the job of the President of the United States? and connect it to the Topic of the unit, Teamwork. The reading glasses, as I call it, or reading comprehension skills are focused in catching the main idea, details and text structure; the vocabulary have many words with letters -ear, -ir, -our and -ur; and the conventions are now about plural possessive nouns (we already got a hint of these in the Kahoot from week 4, when we played with singular possessive nouns).

Objetivos

Knowledge goals: Students will understand that the U. S.  Government has its capital in Washington, D.C., makes, passes, and enforces laws, and is led by the U. S. President.

This week, students will read, listen, and talk about how expository texts help us to understand and have a clearer idea of the main purpose and details in a text.

Then, we are going to prepare for the next assessment through the interactive review week. Practicing the spelling words and convention lessons for the whole unit.

Propósito

Student will acquire vocabulary needed for this week. We'll get a hint of the amazing (weekly video) and vocabulary words (vocabulary activities), the spelling and challenge words (Quizlet). Study the reading skills for this week (video, and short readings).

Duración

Tuesday, November 17th, 3 sessions of 40 minutes each.

Actividad Docente

Teacher shows the images to start up a discussion about this week top features, then teacher shows the weekly video for students to continue discussing or brainstorming their previous knowledge of the Presidents of the U.S.. Teacher plays a Quizlet live as a diagnostic or first impression on the spelling words for this week. Asks Ss to copy the spelling words into their notebook (1st column, rainbow letters). Study the spelling and amazing words in Quizlet. Finally, set up the vocabulary activities for Ss to study them during the week.

Actividad Estudiante

Participate in the open discussion of the video, the images, in the Quizlet live as well as in the copying of the spelling words into their notebooks. Ss need to do the vocabulary activities during the week, as well as to practice the spelling words in Quizlet.

Propósito

Practice spelling and amazing words through Quizlet and the 2nd column in the notebook. Review the reading skills for this week (video, short readings and pages from the workbook). Story of the week, 1st half.

Wednesday, November 18th, 3 sessions of 40 minutes each.

Set up assignments in Google Classroom & Quizlet, monitor Ss as they write down the 2nd column in their notebooks, lead the discussion about the reading skills for this week.

Actividad Estudiante

Participate in the vocabulary games, watch the video about the reading skills, answer the pages in the workbook, listen to the short stories as well as the story of the week.

 

Propósito

Practice spelling and amazing words through Quizlet and the 3rd column in the notebook. Answer pages from the workbook (spelling words). Story of the week, 2nd half. Play Kahoot about plural possessive nouns (diagnostic phase). Study the conventions for the week.

Thursday, November 19th, 3 sessions of 40 minutes each.

Actividad Docente

Set up assignments in Google Classroom & Quizlet, monitor Ss as they write down the 3rd column in their notebooks, lead the discussion about the story of the week. Set up the Kahoot game for this week and monitor the answering of pages in the workbook.

Actividad Estudiante

Practice the spelling words in Quizlet, the notebook and the workbook, participate in the analysis of the story (Think Critically), play with Kahoot about complex sentences and answer the pages from the workbook.

Propósito

Weekly assessment through Quizlet Live, Kahoot, Spelling quiz, and reading (WCPM). Read the Paired Selection and wrap up the key elements of the week. HW: Weekly test in Savvas.

Friday, November 20th, 3 sessions of 40 minutes each.
