This week we'll turn into the last story for Unit 1, Letters Home from Yosemite, and then we'll go over the review for the whole vocabulary, grammar and reading skills of this unit. We'll analize the mentioned story against the question of the week, How does Yosemite reflect the unique qualities of the West? and connect it to the Topic of the unit, Turning Points. The reading glasses, as I call it, or reading comprehension skills are focused in catching the main idea, details and text structure; the vocabulary have many words with suffixes -ist, -ive, and -ness; and the conventions are now about clauses and complex sentences (we already got a hint of these in the Kahoot from week 4).

Knowledge goals: Students will understand that the West has: volcanoes, earthquakes, unique plant life, and unique animals. Thus, this week is connected with Science.

This week, students will read, write, and talk about how Yosemite reflects the unique qualities of the West.

Practice spelling and amazing words through Quizlet and the 3rd column in the notebook. Answer pages from the workbook (spelling words). Story of the week, 2nd read. Play Kahoot about clauses and complex sentences (diagnostic phase). Study the conventions for the week.

Continue working with the vocabulary, spelling and amazing words of this week. Practice the reading skills through the paired selection, The Bison of Caprock Canyons. Learn about the writing task for this week, a personal narrative.

Review of Unit 1 week 1 spelling and conventions, reading skills and use of English.

Review of Unit 1 week 5 spelling and conventions, reading skills and use of English.

Student will acquire vocabulary needed for this week. We'll get a hint of the amazing (weekly video) and vocabulary words (vocabulary activities), the spelling and challenge words (Quizlet)

Review of Unit 1 week 4 spelling and conventions, reading skills and use of English.

Review of Unit 1 week 2 spelling and conventions, reading skills and use of English.

Weekly assessment through Quizlet Live, Kahoot, Spelling quiz, and reading (WCPM). Review some of the writings (homework) from volunteers. Weekly test in Savvas.

Review of Unit 1 week 3 spelling and conventions, reading skills and use of English.

Practice spelling and amazing words through Quizlet and the 2nd column in the notebook. Study the reading skills for this week (video, short readings and pages from the workbook). Story of the week, 1st read.

Teacher shows the images to start up a discussion about this week top features, then teacher shows the weekly video for students to continue discussing or brainstorming their previous knowledge of Yosemite. Teacher plays a Quizlet live as a diagnostic or first impression on the spelling words for this week. Asks Ss to copy the spelling words into their notebook (1st column, rainbow letters). Study the spelling and amazing words in Quizlet. Finally, set up the vocabulary activities for Ss to study them during the week.
