Descripción
In this course, fifth graders will deepen their understanding of concepts about grammar, spelling, text and comprehension strategies. They will have many opportunities to apply what they have learned through integration of language arts with other subjects and they will also begin to write for different purposes and learn how to analyze reading passages in a more complex way.For the first unit, the students will develop new comprehension skills, apply new reading and writing strategies, expand their vocabulary, and improve their reading fluency and spelling knowledge.

- Question of the Unit: What kinds of challenges do people face and how do they meet them?

Materials required:
A five-division notebook, pens, 2 or more pencils, glue, scissors, white and color paper sheets, construction paper, a geometric set, colors, markers, erasers, and a pencil sharpener. Students need to have all materials and assigned textbooks for class.
Textbooks:
The textbooks used in this course are the Reading Street Volume 1 and Volume 2 for fifth grade and the Reader's and Writer's Notebook from Pearson.

Requisitos
REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES FOR VIRTUAL CLASSES-
Punctuality at the beginning of classes; a maximum delay of 5 minutes will be considered.

Make the first connection 5 minutes before class time.

The use of caps, glasses, sunglasses or any accessory that obstruct vision.

Eating is not allowed during the virtual session (except for natural water).

You should not use obscene, foul language or any high-sounding word, which threaten the integrity of any teacher and much less with classmates.

Respect for colleagues in every possible area and this also includes for the teacher.

Work in a timely manner, as well as in the delivery of works.

Discipline during the session (no yelling, singing, whistling, etc.)

Avoid sharing inappropriate content.

Have on hand what you need to work (notebook, pencil, colors, glue, scissors, etc.)

The teacher is the only one authorized to end the session.

In case of non-compliance with any of these rules, the parents will be notified and the corresponding sanctions will be applied.

Present yourself clean and already fed.

Staying with the camera open during class and focusing your face.

Keep the microphone off until receiving instructions from the teacher.

Have materials nearby and available.

Work in a specific and appropriate place for the class without distractions (no TV, radio, video games or people yelling or interacting).

Limit the use of other devices and focus on the tablet or computer.
