In this week of June we intend to finish the lessons of week 5, which is going to be the last week of classes and the books. T further explore the unit concept of The Unexpected, students will read, write, and talk about the unexpected influence we have on those around us. Sweet Music in Harlem (Main Story) and Author's note (Paired Selection) will help us to answer the weekly question, what unexpected influence do we have on those around us?

Objetivos

Monday the 8th, Students will build the language they need for the work of this week. Through the weekly video, Quizlet and activities in Pearson we will go over the amazing, vocabulary, spelling and challenge words for week 5.

Tuesday the 9th, Students will review the language and assess it through the vocabulary activities and pages 431, 433 & 438 in the workbook. 

Wednesday the 10th, Students move onto the grammar lesson for the week. T plays the video about the grammar lesson for week 5, punctuation. Answer pages 432 & 439 in the workbook. Play a Kahoot game.

Thursday, the 11th, Students will focus in the stories for week 5. T plays a video in Pearson Realize (Reading Comprehension skill), and then read the stories that prepare them for the main story, Sweet Music in Harlem. T will play the story of the week (1st read)

Friday, the 12th. Students will read the Main Story (2nd read). Focus in Sequence reading skill, as well as the comprehension strategy based on background knowledge. T uses the think critically section for an open discussion about the story of the week. Read the paired selection and Sleuth stories.

Proceso

First, play scribble.io with spelling and vocabulary words from week 4

Second, work in the language needed for week 5, first the amazing words in the weekly video, then the vocabulary and spelling words. Use the Pearson portal and Quizlet to learn pronunciation, meaning and practice these words.

Group read the story of the week, analyze the text through the reading skills for week 5

Assess vocabulary and spelling words through Quizlet, grammar through Kahoot. Then, read the paired selection and Sleuth texts to conclude the week.

Use comprehension and reading skills appropriate for the readins of week 5

Focus in the grammar lesson for week 5, punctuation. 

Actividades Docente

T selects words from week 4 to play scribble with 12 students at random. T motivates the rest of the students to play in Quizlet, practice with the 2 sets of language around the story of The Hindenburg.

T shows the pics in p. 434-435, makes some questions to elicit previous knowledge or Ss' best guess around the topic for week 5. Plays the video for week 5, ask Ss what amazing words they pick from the video, then helps them to complete the language needed. T displays the vocabulary cards in Pearson, then dictates the spelling and challenge words. T asks Ss to play Quizlet Live.

T sorts out readers through ClassDojo, focus in fluency. Use questions in the Teacher's Edition to assess Ss' comprehension skills. T may also use p. 458, Think Critically to help Ss analyze the main story and/or answer the question of the week.

T asks Ss to play Quizlet Live and Kahoot to assess their knowledge of the language and grammar lessons for the week. T plays the paired selection, Sweet Music in Harlem: Author's Note, as well as the story in Sleuth, Making Up Music, to wrap up the week.

T plays an instructional video about the comprehension skill, Sequence, for week 5, then asks Ss to read story "What do you know about Harlem?". Explain about homographs and ask Ss to read "Jazz in Harlem" in order to practice this skill. Make questions for the use of both skills. T plays the story of the week, Sweet Music in Harlem, for listening. 

T sets a Kahoot for Ss to practice the grammar lesson as a diagnostic. Then T plays a video about the lesson, reads and explains the info on p. 432, elicit understanding from Ss. Ask Ss to answer p. 438. Ask Ss to check answers as a class.

Actividades Estudiante

Play Scribble,io, discuss and participate in the opening dialogue for week 5, look and repeat the vocabulary words, note the amazing words from the video in their notebook or workbook, copy the rest of the amazing words and practice the spelling and challenge words in Quizlet.

Ss participate in the reading aloud of paragraphs as sorted by teacher through ClassDojo. Volunteers may respond to teacher's questions about the story. 

Ss play Quizlet Live and Kahoot to practice the language and grammar for week 5, then listen to the paired selection in Pearson and participate in the reading aloud of the Sleuth story.

Watch the weekly video about the comprehension skill sequence, participate in the reading aloud of the previous readings of the week. Listen to the story of the week, participate in predicting content and setting.

Ss play Kahoot,it as a diagnostic, then watch an instructional video about the grammar lesson, answer p. 432 & 438, check as  a class.
