This week we are getting into the last unit of the book, Unit 8, Society. In the first week we are going to cover the vocabulary and first grammar lessons. The topic is very related to the recent event in Minneapolis, MN (USA), so we will be discussing or having dialogues to use this unit´s language and the news about the social events around the major cities in the US:

Objetivos

As it was mentioned already, this week we are going to focus in acquiring the language needed to discuss about society in the US and Mexico, we are going to get to know terms around politics, crime and criminals, the justice system, people involved in criminal cases, antonyms, and word families.

The second objective for the current week is in regards the grammar lesson, how to use Past Perfect to talk about past events.

Proceso

Use past perfect to talk about past events

Acquire language needed for this lesson through activities in Quizlet and assess with a vocabulary quiz.

To continue learning or acquiring the vocabulary needed for this Unit through a puzzle and Quizlet Live.

Practice the grammar lesson about past perfect through games and the grammar focus.

Open dialogue about the recent events in Minneapolis, MN and other major cities in USA. Connect those events to the topic for Unit 8, Society. Introduce the objectives for this unit, review and analyze each one. Answer p. 124 & 125

Practice language needed for this Unit

To practice the use of political vocabulary through writing a fact file, similar to exercise 1 in p. 124

Actividades Docente

T sets 7 activities in MyEnglishLab for Ss to practice the vocabulary from p. 159 (WordList 8)

T displays p. 126 and asks Ss to do exercises 1 to 7. Then sets Ss into pairs for them to compare answers. T will use the exercises in the CD-ROM to check the answers as a class.

T creates a Quizlet Live for Ss to play a game to diagnose their previous knowledge in part of the vocabulary they will use this unit. Motivate Ss to study the set of words in Quizlet, then open an assignemnt in Edmodo for them to assess this vocabulary.

T displays a vocabulary game, puzzle, that is in the CD_ROM, selects random Ss to pick a number and participate in filling out the puzzle. Grant points in classdojo. T sets Quizlet Live games for Ss to practice the vocabulary words in teams.

Teacher will open the grammar game in the CD-ROM, select Ss at random to participate. Have the other Ss take notes or make Q's about the exercise. Then T shows the video about the lesson (also in the CD-ROM). Asks Ss to Play Kahoot, then Ss answer the grammar focus exercise. Check as a class. T assess Ss' knowledge through a grammar quiz, 8.2A, in Google Forms.

After taking attendance, T displays p. 124 and reads the title. Makes Q's for Ss to tell what do they know about the recent events in the US, focus in description of things. Then motivate Ss to speak about the reasons por the different groups that participate in the disturbs or conflicts. T then brings Ss attention back to p. 124, read aloud the objectives for each lesson in the Unit. Ask Ss to solve the exercises in p. 124 & 125, provide the audios for exercises 6-7, 11-12

Play Quizlet Live games with the 2nd set of words for this Unit, invite Ss to go over the different resources in Quizlet in order to master most of the vocabulary words.

Sets and assignment in Edmodo for Ss to do exercise 2 in p. 124, reviews and grades the files or pics sent by Ss.

Actividades Estudiante

Students will do exercises 1 to 7 as assigned in MyEnglishLab

Ss answer exercises 1-7 in pages 126-127, first individually, then in pairs, and finally, participate in the checking as a class.

Students play Quizlet Live to get a sense of how many new words they need to learn, then they answer a quiz to assess their previous knowledge on these words.

Students participate, randomly, in filling out the puzzle and then in winning points through Quizlet Live.

Participate in the Grammar game, watch the video lesson, take part in the Kahoot and answer the grammar focus on p. 151, solve the grammar quiz 8.2 A

Open their books in p. 124. Participate in the forum about recent events in the US. Read and analyze the objectives for this unit. Answer p. 124 & 125

Students have to participate in the Quizlet Live games as well as in the Kahoot, individual and challenge one.

Read the fact file in exercise 1, read and understand the requirements in exercise 2, investigate some information needed to complete the assignment in Edmodo.
